All 47 GreenKids schools that have applied to become Maryland Green Schools while participating in the GreenKids Partnership Program have been successful in earning this prestigious award! (The 48th school, Lakewood Elementary, was a Maryland Green School prior to joining GreenKids.)
The Maryland Green Schools Award Program, developed and administered by the Maryland Association for Environmental and Outdoor Education (MAEOE), challenges schools to integrate the environment into all aspects of the school culture, including professional development for teachers, curricular integration, modeling of best management practices inside and outside the school, community involvement, and celebration. It takes a school two years to effectively fulfill the requirements associated with certification, and our GreenKids outreach program has been instrumental to these schools in achieving the needed requirements.
