Endangered Species Discovered in Potomac
ANS Boardmember, David Cottingham reported the discovery of an endangered species, the shortnose sturgeon in the lower Potomac River which may have impacts on the mammoth Georgetown University Boathouse proposed for what is now C& O National Parkland.

Especially in the lower third of the County, but increasingly in fast-growth places, such as Clarksburg, our streams are being heavily polluted and degraded by construction mud, lawn fertilizers, street dirt, and bacteria from pet waste. 11-Step Proposal for Cleaner Water in Montgomery County
This proposal by the Stormwater Partners Coalition* will help protect and restore our drinking water sources, the Anacostia and Potomac Rivers, local streams, and the Chesapeake Bay. The Silent Auction: A Roaring Success On June 10, ANS held its first silent auction at Woodend. More than 200 people attended, and the 150 donated auction items, many from ANS members, attracted enthusiastic bids. Items ranged from hikes with star naturalists, hand knit scarves and jewelry, to boat trips, jazz lessons, massages, and weekend getaways. Full Story…

Proposed Outer Beltway Segments in Virginia —the Battlefield Bypass and the Tri-County Parkway— Will Worsen Air Pollution and Traffic Congestion
The building of an Outer Beltway is supported by those interested in developing the DC region’s more rural areas in Stafford, Fauquier, Prince William, Loudoun, Montgomery, Frederick, and Prince George’s Counties.
