Celebrate the Accomplishments & Support the Legacy
of Neal Fitzpatrick
Neal Fitzpatrick joined ANS 33 years ago as Environmental Education Officer overseeing education programs for all ages. Prior to taking the reins of Executive Director in 2001, Neal worked as an ANS advocate, protecting the DC region’s water resources and natural areas that serve as outdoor classrooms for children and adults.
As Neal plans to retire in September, it seems fitting that his legacy include a fund established in his name that would support the mobilization of people of all ages to protect and restore streams in the greater DC region. This broad reaching effort could include, for example, ANS’s GreenKids Stream Science Program with area schoolchildren; ANS’s campaign to preserve Montgomery County’s last, best creek, Ten Mile Creek; and meeting the long-term needs of our Water Quality Monitoring Program.
To honor Neal and to show appreciation for his long and distinguished career with ANS, we are planning several festive celebrations. The following have been scheduled thus far:
Leave a Legacy Concert Celebration
Saturday, July 13, 2013, 6-9 p.m.
Woodend Sanctuary, Chevy Chase
Suggested Donation $25/person ($20 of which is a tax-deductible gift)
RSVP by Monday, July 8: [email protected] or 301-652-9188 x16
Food and refreshments will be provided by Festive Foods. Long-time ANS members and supporters George Stephens and Kathy Westra express their love of folk music and the natural world through a large repertoire of traditional and contemporary songs about birds and beasts, appreciation for the wild places that provide refuge from our busy urban lives, and the importance of conserving our lands and waters. Their performances feature tight vocal harmonies and accompaniments on six- and twelve-string guitars, as well as lots of choruses, which they encourage their audiences to join. More info here.
