If you live in Loudoun County and want to introduce your child to the great outdoors, come visit the Broadlands Nature Center. This wonderful nature center is located just south of the Dulles Greenway at 21907 Claiborne Parkway, Broadlands, Virginia.

The Nature Center is a fun place to visit with hands-on exhibits for kids, live animals, a children's reading room and informative eco exhibits. The Nature Center is also home to several natural habitats including ponds, meadow and wooded areas to explore.

BrlandsNature-Center-pix008The Audubon Naturalist Society (ANS) and the Broadlands Homeowners Association (HOA) have partnered to provide nature programs for the community. All programs meet at the Nature Center. We will go outside for most programs so please dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy shoes.

ANS offers programs for Scouts, families, birthday parties, after school, PreK and K, and parents with toddlers.

Nature Center Hours are: M-F 9-5pm, 2nd Saturdays 10-2pm. The Nature Center is also open two addtional Saturdays a month. Please check the Broadlands HOA newsletter on-line (www.broadlandshoa.com) to find open dates and the Naturalist's schedule.

Naturalist Hours:
Monday: OFF
Tuesday: 9-5
Wednesday: 9-3
Thursday: 11-5
Friday: 9-2
Saturday: Every second Saturday of the month

Upcoming Programs

Summer Program


“Art of Nature”
Age Groups & Times: 5-8 years 10:30-11:30 A.M., 9-12 years 1:00-2:00 P.M.
Dates: Tuesdays, July 16th- August 6th
Cost: $20 Broadlands residents/ $28 non-residents
Get creative with nature! In this summer series, kids will get inspired by the outdoors to make beautiful art. We will draw and paint items found in nature, make collages, track wildlife, and much more!

Fall Programs

Wee Naturalist!
Age Group: 2-4 years
Dates: September 13th-November 1st
Time: Fridays, 10:45-11:30 A.M.
Cost: $40 residents/$56 non-residents for 8 week session
Every week we will enjoy nature by doing crafts and going on short walks around the Nature Center. In inclement weather, we will visit the Nature Center and get to know some of the animals.

Discovering Fall
Age Group: 5-8 years
Dates: October 10th-October 31st
Time: Thursdays, 3:00-4:00 P.M.
Cost: $20 residents/ $28 non-residents for 4 week session
Come enjoy the wonderful colors of fall at the Nature Center! In this session, there will be hands-on activities, crafts and exploration to help discover the beautiful changes of fall.

Animal Science
Age Group: 9-12 years
Dates: September 10th-October 15th
Time: Tuesdays, 3:30-4:30 P.M.
Cost: $30 residents/$42 non-residents for 6 weeks session
Do you want to pet or handle a snake, a rabbit, or maybe a turtle? Come join us at the Nature Center to learn all about our residents. Discover the fascinating world of these animals!

2nd Saturday Family Programs at Noon!

“The Bug Man”
Date: Saturday, July 13th
Time: 12:00 PM- 1:30 PM
1 adult and 1 child: $5 resident/$7 non-resident
Family up to 5 members: $10 resident/ $12 non-resident
“The Bug Man” will showcase incredible jaw dropping displays of world-wide insects, many of which are the largest species in the world! This exciting program will introduce you to ecology and basic entomology of insects. And you will get a chance to pet a life bug!

“Under the Sea” 
Date: Saturday, August 10th
Time: 10:00 AM- 12:00 PM
$3.00/child for Broadlands Residents
$4.00/child for non-Broadlands residents
“Under the Sea” brings a virtual visit to the beach with LIVE SEA ANIMALS! Get up close with a ghost crab, mole crab, horseshoe crab, clam and more! Learn about waves, sand, tides, and the sun. Join Andrew Wilson, a Marine Biologist who has been offering one of the best programs on aquatic life with a wide variety of live sea animals!

“Beautifying with Bulbs”
Date: Saturday, October 12th
Time: 11:00 AM- 12:00 PM
Want a beautiful, colorful garden for the spring time?! Learn all the tips and techniques from a Master Gardener on bulb planting.
Date: Saturday, October 12th 
Time: 9:45 AM- 10:45 AM
Fee: $3 residents/$4 non-residents
The kids will have a chance to make a beautiful flower that can last year round! They will also get a chance to see some of the animals in the nature center up close and personal.

“Prepare Your Garden for Winter”
Date: Saturday, November 9th
Time: 12:00 PM- 1:00 PM
A Master Gardener will be coming to the Broadlands Nature Center to give a presentation on how to prepare your garden for winter. This presentation will go over seven things you should do to prepare your garden and plants for cold weather!

Fee: $3 residents/$4 non-residents
Celebrate Thanksgiving early! Come to the nature center to learn all about turkeys. We will have an exciting activity and then a fun art project at the end!
