Nature Programs for all ages

We love nature! And we bet you do, too. So come with us and learn about butterflies and dragonflies, snakes and salamanders, grasses and trees. So many fun things to do! So many fascinating things to learn!

We offer kids exciting field trips, afterschool classes, summer camps, preschool, scout programs, and even birthday parties.

Adults can choose from an amazing array of opportunities to experience the natural world in the greater Washington, D.C. region, including at our Woodend Sanctuary in Chevy Chase, Maryland, and our Rust Sanctuary in Leesburg, Virginia. We also venture to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the Eastern Shore, and other areas throughout the mid-Atlantic.

Are you a teacher? Learn how to teach and inspire your students to become good stewards of the environment in our Teachable Science workshops.

Just getting started? Come to a free Saturday morning bird walk led by an experienced birder.

Interested in exploring the flora at ANS?  Check out the bountiful plant life at Woodend Sanctuary

Want to serve your community? Join our volunteer Water Quality Monitoring Program and become a steward of a stream near you.  We offer Water Quality Monitoring Classes to get you started.

Really into nature? Check out our Nature Travel Program to exotic destinations, such as Ecuador and Tanzania.

Interested in becoming a naturalist--professional or amateur? Take our college-level evening courses on topics, such as Spring Flower ID, Biology for Naturalists, and Wetland Ecosystems.

Want to know more? See the Naturalist Quarterly, which includes a complete listing of activities (arranged by type rather than by location). If you have any questions, call 301-652-9188 x16 or email Pam Oves.
