Highlights for November 16-22
9 a.m.-Noon Diane Cameron will attend the second meeting of the ad hoc Water Quality Working Group on Ten Mile Creek. This group, set up last month by the Montgomery County Council, is charged with examining what's needed to protect this Special Protection Area, including looking at land cover requirements -- impervious cover caps and forest cover minimums -- that have been documented to protect high-quality streams.
10:15 a.m. Stella Koch will make a formal presentation to and lead a discussion with the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors concerning the Annual Report on the Environment from the Environmental Quality Advisory Council, which she chairs. The presentation/discussion will take place in the Board Room in Fairfax County Government Center.
7:30 p.m. Stella Koch will attend a meeting of the Great Falls Citizens Association Board; Stella serves as co-chair of the Environment, Parks, and Trails Committee.
6:30-9 p.m. Diane Cameron will attend a Stormwater Partners meeting. Topics to be discussed include Stormwater Permit Watershed Implementation Plan; Environmental Site Design Code changes; Ten Mile Creek; Forest Conservation Law Reform; artificial turf.
7:30-9:30 p.m. Dolores Milmoe will attend the Sugarloaf Citizens' Association Board meeting in Dickerson, MD.
Dolores Milmoe will research proposed septic easement and make a recommendation to state Senator Garigiola, as requested by his office.
1-5 p.m. Dolores Milmoe will work with the ANS auction committee to prepare for the ANS Autumn Lights Auction & Reception, Saturday, November 21, at Woodend.
7-9 p.m. Diane Cameron will host a discussion, "Sustainable landscaping for Your Watershed and Yard," to private residences in Baltimore; event sponsored by the Green Building Institute.
10 a.m.-3 p.m. Stella Koch and Diane Cameron will attend a meeting of the ANS Rust Sanctuary Conservation Committee
6:30-9 p.m. ANS Conservation Staff will update the ANS Board on the workload, the issues, and the funding of the Conservation Program.
10:30 a.m. ANS senior staff meeting
10 a.m.-2 p.m. Dolores Milmoe will help lead a rain garden installation at the DC Habitat for Humanity site in northeast D.C.
12-3 p.m. Diane Cameron will finalize proposal for funding of the ANS Water Quality Monitoring Program
2-4:30 p.m. Stella Koch will attend a Regional Land Conservation Meeting of the National Parks Conservation Association, Washington DC
7:15 p.m. Stella Koch will meet with the Planning Commission Environment Committee on the protection of Environmental Quality Corridors (Stream Valley corridors). The meeting will take place in the Fairfax County Government Board Conference Room.
Diane Cameron will get her comments concerning rainscaping and stormwater permit implementation to Montgomery County Department of Environmental Protection; she will also follow-up with Maryland Stormwater Consortium members on their Environmental Site Design code change advocacy elsewhere in Maryland.
